The Family Consumer Sciences (FCS) department at Western Michigan University offers two unique degrees that focus on the needs of children and families within the context of their communities. The Family Studies (FSDJ) and the Child Development (FCDJ) majors are designed to provide a comprehensive educational curriculum taught from an ecological perspective. The program features a multi-cultural perspective that helps families and individuals interface with a diverse and changing global community. Students explore relationships among individuals, families and their environment and culture with the goal of improving quality of life within communities and society at large. Students who complete this degree pursue careers in family life education found throughout health care, religious, social service, military, and corporate settings. This program will require a few face-to-face meetings to complete the program.
