Financial Aid Consortium for Branch Campus Students

The Financial Aid Consortium Agreement allows a student to receive financial aid for courses taken at Western Michigan University and a community college simultaneously. This agreement enables students to be enrolled at WMU and a community college and receive financial aid for all credit hours in which they are enrolled at the two educational institutions. The agreement ensures that there is no lapse or decrease in financial aid coverage should a student wish to begin taking courses at WMU prior to completing their entire curriculum at a participating community college.

Listed below are guidelines that apply to students interested in participating in a consortium agreement for financial aid purposes:

1. Students must be admitted into a degree granting program at Western Michigan University, must have completed at least 50-55 hours (depending on your community college) toward their associate degree at a participating community college, and must take at least six hours at Western Michigan University per semester.

2. Each class taken at a community college must be considered a requirement of the degree that the student is seeking at Western Michigan University in order for that student to be included in the financial aid award process.

3. To receive financial aid through Western Michigan University, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and any other documents requested to determine their eligibility for financial aid. The number of credit hours and cost of enrollment at the community college will also be taken into account to determine overall eligibility for financial aid as dual-enrolled
students.

4. Completing the arrangements for Consortium
Agreements and/or Student Contracts may take two weeks to process, and it is advisable for students to make financial arrangements with their community college by the appropriate deadline for bill payment at that institution.
