Master of Arts (MA) in Science Education

The Western Michigan University - Traverse City Campus is exploring the need for an academic program in Science Education for the Northern Michigan area. Please take a few minutes to assist us in this venture by answering the following questions regarding this program.

The Mallinson Institute awards a Master of Arts (MA) in Science Education. This program is designed for K-12 science teachers who wish to expand their teaching skills as well as for students beginning work toward a Ph.D. in science education. School teachers with a strong science background may qualify for admission.

The Mallinson Institute for Science Education is a research-oriented unit that is devoted to science education and to the study and improvement of how people teach and learn science. For our graduate programs the Institute offers a series of science content and pedagogy courses via the Internet and summer workshops.

The Science Education program aims to develop a community of scholars who are knowledgeable in recent developments in the field of science education. The MA degree is especially attractive to science teachers who wish to enhance their content knowledge and teaching skills. Courses would be offered at times convenient for working adults (evenings, weekends, etc.) at the WMU - Traverse City Campus.
