Library Access

WMU Branch Campuses offer you the benefits of the main campus, wherever you are.  That is true for library resources as well.  As a WMU student, you have access to all electronic library resources via the internet whether you are at a branch campus, at work, or at home.  If you can connect to the Web, then you can access the WMU Libraries’ resources which include thousands of electronic journals, databases, e-books, encyclopedias and dictionaries.  The only additional information you need is your Bronco Net ID and password.

Your Bronco NetID

The Bronco NetID is the same account you use when you register online for classes, check your grades, or access other WMU electronic services. If you do not have a Bronco NetID, then you should check with the staff at your branch campus. They will set up an account for you.

The password for your Bronco NetID will be automatically set when the account is created. You should immediately change it to a password that will be easy for you to remember. You can do that at here. If you forget your password then it will have to be reset. To avoid this you may set up a “challenge phrase” to remind you of the password. For answers to other questions regarding your Bronco NetID, contact the OIT Helpdesk or 269-387-HELP.

Logging on to electronic Library resources

Public Files

Many of the resources available on the WMU Libraries’ website are available to the public. These are normally marked with an open-lock symbol.

Restricted Files

However, many of the resources we provide are restricted to our students, faculty, and staff. These resources are marked by the closed-lock symbol.

When you log into one of these restricted resources you will be required to log in with your Bronco NetID and password. You should:

  1. Locate the resource you need on the Library’s website.
  2. Click on the highlighted title link.
  3. You will see a screen indicating that you have reached a restricted resource. You should then select the User Name text field and enter your Bronco NetID.
  4. Select the Password text field and enter your password.
  5. Click the connect button

Once you log into a restricted resource, you will not be asked for your Bronco NetID and password again unless you close your browser. In other words, you may switch databases without having to log in again.

A list of all the plug-ins you may need while accessing resources from the Libraries' web pages can be found here: http://www.wmich.edu/library/help/connect.php#plugin
