Articles delivered full text to your desktop / Books delivered to your door

Students enrolled in WMU branch campuses who do not live in the Kalamazoo and Portage area are eligible to request direct delivery of articles and books from the University Libraries. There is no cost for this service, and books are generally delivered within two to three days. Books are checked out for two weeks to undergraduate students, and four weeks for graduate students. Renewal may be requested by phone or on the library website. Articles are normally delivered electronically within twenty-four hours.

Before you may use this service you will need to set up an account. This will only take a few minutes and once your account is established you may immediately begin requesting materials directly through online databases. This account is different from your Bronco Net ID. You may choose to use the same user name and password, however. You select the user name and password, so you may make it something you will easily remember.

If you have requested materials through Document Delivery or Interlibrary Loan in the past, then you already have an account and you do not need to register again. If you have forgotten your password or user name then you may call the Resource Sharing Center at 269-387-5172, or e-mail lib-rsc@wmich.edu.

To use Document Delivery, from the WMU Libraries’ Homepage: http://www.wmich.edu/library/

  5. Please read the copyright restrictions. You must adhere to these restrictions when obtaining materials through the Document Delivery service.
  6. Click the First Time Users Click Here button. You will need to fill out all the parts of the form marked required.
  7. For WMU Status open the Choose a Status menu and select the appropriate category.
  8. On the section of the form that asks "If you take classes from off campus, you must select the appropriate category". If you do not make a selection here, the system will assume you are a main campus student and you will have to come to the Waldo Library on campus to pick up materials. If you take classes in more than one location, only select one campus.
  9. For Preferred Notification Method leave the menu at the default of e-mail if you’d like to receive an e-mail message notifying you when your requests have been sent. You may select Phone from the menu if you would prefer a phone call rather than an e-mail message.
  10. Leave Preferred Article Delivery Method as Mail to Address.
  11. Articles are normally scanned and delivered electronically to the web. This is the fastest way to get the articles you request. If you would rather get a paper copy of the articles you request they can be mailed to you. In that case select No from the menu.
  12. Leave the Authorized Users section blank, since your materials will not be picked up in person.
  13. Finally choose a Username and enter it in the Username text area. You will need to use it every time you request and pick up materials.
  14. Enter your password in the Password text area. Re-enter your password in the second Password text area.
  15. When all the information has been entered click the Submit Information button. This will take you to the Main Menu for the system.

Once you have set up the account you may log on at any time to make requests for materials, view requests in process, pick up articles that have been delivered electronically, and change your username, password, address, or other information. To log on from any page on the Library website (http://www.wmich.edu/library/) click the Interlibrary Loan link under Get It in the left hand navigation bar.  Then you can click the button to Access ILL system. Then log in with the user name and password you created.  Use the appropriate buttons to make new requests for articles, books, etc.
