Electronic Journals

There are approximately 15,000 electronic journal subscriptions available to WMU students and faculty. Access to these journals is available in two ways:

Journal Finder

This tool allows you to search for a specific journal and see a list of which issues are available electronically and which we may have in print in one of the WMU Libraries. You may also do a key word search, so for example you could come up with a list of all the journals we have that include the words “public administration” in the title.

The Journal Finder can also be a useful and convenient tool for keeping up to date on the latest literature in your field. It allows you to locate the latest electronic issues of a journal and then read through the table of contents of those issues just as if you picked up a paper copy and flipped through the articles. This is sometimes a good technique for coming up with a research paper topic or focusing a broad topic.

Online journal collections

Several collections of electronic journals are also available through the WMU Libraries. These are helpful insomuch as they allow you to consider a variety of sources immediately, without having to request printed material from the WMU Libraries.

Some of the collections focus on certain subject areas such as Science or Mathematics. Other collections are broadly interdisciplinary, and include titles on a variety of subjects. Several of these sources allow you to browse through journal issues or look at tables of contents. This is one way to find current information in your field of study. You may also use these journals to select topics for research essays or for presentations.
